A 124.277mph lap and 9th overall in the Senior TT marked the end of a great weeks racing for Ian Armstrong.

  • Two 9ths overall on his Canteen Smithy sponsored R1 superbike.
  • 11th overall on the Powersport Bikes GSX-R1000K7 Superstock machine.
  • 16th overall on the Padgetts CBR600 Supersport machine.

Ian Armstrong at Ballacraine on the Powersport Bikes GSX-R1000K7 Superstock bike We are proud to have had Ian ride our Superstock GSXR1000K7 in this years centenary TT and would hope that next year ourselves and Ian will be back once more to tackle the islands demanding roads. However before next year Ian will be riding the Powersport GSX-R1000K7 in the Ulster Grand Prix and the Southern 100, we look forward to seeing you there.

The Senior TT was won by John McGuinness who set a new outright lap record of 130.354mph, a truly amazing feat.

Wednesday 6th June 2007 - Supersport TT

A solid 15th place for Ian Armstrong today in the Supersport TT on the Padgetts CBR600. The race was won by Ian Hutchinson another Yorkshire man from Bingley who beat John McGuinness by just 2 seconds at the line to take his maiden TT victory. Well done Ian it's always good to see our local lads doing well.

Ian Armstrong will have just one more race this week, the Senior TT on Friday. He will be riding his Canteen Smithy sponsored R1 superbike in this event.

Tuesday 5th June 2007 - Superstock Race

Ian finished a brilliant 11th overall in today's very competitive Superstock race on the Powersport GSXR1000K7 with a fastest lap of 122.1mph. For much of the race Ian was lying in 9th and 10th position but a late charge by Gary Carswell and a final lap of 124.62mph piped Ian at the post leaving him just outside the top 10. The race was won by New Zealand's Bruce Anstey on another Suzuki GSXR1000K7 setting a new lap record in the process of 128.4mph. Well done to Ian and the team over in the Isle of Man, that was a brilliant result and everyone here is very proud of your achievement.

Monday 4th June 2007 - Superbike race

Ian Armstrong on his Canteen Smithy sponsored R1 at Creg-ny-barr, 2007 Isle of Man TT Ian rode his canteen Smithy R1 to a well-earned 9th place in the Superbike race with a best lap of 122.520 mph around the gruelling 37 mile TT course. The race which in total comprises 6 laps and a total of some 225 miles was completed by Ian in just over 1 hour and 53 minutes. I believe this is Ian's best finish in the Supebike TT and we would all like to wish him our congratulations. The race was won by John McGuinness with a new fastest lap of 128.041 mph.

Tuesday at 12.15pm will see Ian take to the TT course once again, but this time riding the Powersport Bikes GSXR1000K7 in the 4 lap Superstock race. We all wish Ian the best of luck and hope the sun keeps shining for tomorrows race.

Saturday 2nd June 2007 - Superbike race

Due to deteriorating weather conditions all of todays racing has been called off and the superbike race will be re-sceduled for Monday at 12.15pm.

Friday 1st June 2007 - Timed practice session

Well Friday's practice was a bit of a disaster for everybody after an incident at the Black Dub section of the course involving three riders a burning hedge and a fire engine, thankfully nobody was seriously hurt. In the time available Ian just managed one lap on the GSXR1000 at 118.906mph hindered somewhat by his new leathers which were apparently a touch on the tight side. I suspect they may be left in the race truck on race day.

First races are tomorrow at midday with Superbike up first. Ian will be riding his Canteen Smithy sponsored R1 and we all wish him the best of luck.

Wednesday 30th May 2007 - Timed practice session

This evening's practice session has been cancelled due to the inclement weather conditions.

I had a brief chat with Ian today and he confirmed that the Padgetts CBR600 was now back in one piece and was ready for tonight's practice. Ian was also pleased with last nights first run out on the Powersport GSXR1000 Superstock and thought that with a few minor tweaks to the suspension and the gearing that there was definitely a lot more to come. Let's hope the weathers a bit kinder tomorrow evening.

Tuesday 29th May 2007 - Timed practice session

Having spoken to Ian at lunchtime today he was fairly sore but on his way to see the circuit medic with the hope that he would be pronounced fit to practice this evening.

The CBR600 is perhaps in worse shape than Ian and is going to take a few days to fix.

So this evenings practice will be 2 laps on the R1 Superbike followed by 2 laps on the Powersport GSXR1000 Superstock.

There is some concern over the GSXR's fuel capacity and its ability to complete a full two laps of the TT course, so this evening will be a real test. In standard trim they hold just 18.5 litres which is certainly not enough to complete two gruelling laps of the 37 mile circuit.

However after a fair amount of stretching and bowing out we did manage to increase the petrol tanks capacity to just over 20 litres, so let's hope it's enough!

This evenings practice went very well with Ian managing a stunning 121.3mph lap on his R1 to place him 10th overall in the Superbike rankings.

First time out on the Superstock GSXR was equally impressive with a 119mph lap leaving him just outside the top ten and first of the non-factory Suzuki's, we can only assume that the fuel tank is large enough as Ian certainly completed his 2nd lap!

Monday 28th May 2007 - Timed practice session

Ian was intending to run all three bikes in the first timed practice session on Monday. A quick lap on the R1 followed by 2 on the Padgetts CBR600 plus a further 2 on the Powersport GSXR1000 Superstock.

Ian's first outing was on his Canteen Smithy sponsored R1 superbike, completing just one lap Ian concluded his Superbike practice with a 116mph lap ranking him 16th in the overall standings.

Next up was the Padgetts CBR600, a first lap of 112.64 mph ranked him 12th overall before disaster struck, Ian took a tumble at Laurel Bank on a damp road with both him and the CBR600 sliding into the kerb at some 60mph. Ian suffered some damage to his elbow which was promptly attended to by the hospital and in Ian's words they fixed up the hole.
