GSXR1000K7 Launch Day - 24th February 2007
The new bike was unveiled on the Saturday morning on the Powersport stage and later that afternoon I was delighted to take charge of the Powersport Superstock machine.
We now had the opportunity do some" running in" on the new bike , and despite the weather put a few miles on the clock. After only a couple of short trips I got chance for a decent spin mid week and rode around the Dales on some testing twisty roads.
With conditions quite poor ,on a cold blustery wet day, I didnt expect to get much of a feel for the bike, but soon began to appreciate this bike's potential. I was expecting everthing to have that awkward new feel, like you get with a new pair of boots, untill you get bedded in. But not so, the gearbox is smooth and throttle response feels positive , together making accelerating through the gears and short shifting feel effortless. The blustery conditions couldnt upset the stability or the superb balanced feel it gives when changing direction and shifting weight.
I rode across the top of the North York moors on a single track road, wet, bumpy and covered in cattle muck,a real test for sure, but was still confident with the grip and comfort and could only wonder why I wasnt testing in Spain instead. But as i descended from the clouds down on to some faster roads, I managed to open it up a little, ( within the legal limits of course ) and suffice to say that was very pleasing also, even in mode c on the mapping options.
I hope to have another good run before the weekend and then let Powersport boys get on with fully preparing the bike for the season, and will post updates on that soon. Regards Ian
